Elizabeth Court Bed Breakfast

A Quiet Treasure in the Heart of Timaru, New Zealand

Elizabeth Courts is located in central Timaru, the riviera of the south.  We are situated within easy walking distance to restaurants, cafes, supermarket, movie theater and Caroline Bay.

Timaru

Timaru (aka 'The riviera of the south') is in a very central location, and is within 2 hours of Christchurch, Dunedin, and the Mackenzie country. Near our Domestic Air Terminal is the Levels International Raceway for motor racing which attracts large crowds in the January and March Super V8 and Truck racing.  We also have the DB Breweries with group Tours organised and close by the Light Leathers Tannery which supplies Deer Leather to Overseas Fashion Houses such as Gucci and Prada.

Timaru allows easy travelling to the hydro lakes, walks, many different fishing and boating opportunities and sightseeing - particularly at South Canterbury's own Aoraki (Mt Cook - New Zealand's highest mountain), and Lake Tekapo where the is an Ice Skating Rink and Hot Pools.  Also Scenic Flights over Mt Cook and the Mt John Observatory for Star Gazing just past Lake Tekapo.

Visit one of over 40 Cafes and Restaurants in the Town, or Stroll down to Caroline Bay where the Blue eyed Penguins are establishing a Colony.  Also visit the Trevor Griffiths Rose Gardens and the Bird Aviary.  We also have at the North Entrance to Caroline Bay our new swimming complex and just down the road is the Desmond Unwin Tennis Centre.  Also at the Port Entrance to Caroline Bay is the newly resurfaced Speed Skating Rink which is attracting International Attention.

Visit the Aigantighe Art Gallery, museum, Maori Rock Art at the Information Centre, Dine on the Bay Hill overlooking Caroline Bay or Shop in our Thriving Town, All just a five minute walk from the Guest House.

Caroline Bay

The Piazza at Caroline Bay is the staircase between the Bay Hill and Caroline Bay. At the bottom is the Trevor Griffiths Rose Gardens. The Council Building has had a total rebuild behind the fa├žade and shows the stunning architecture that Timaru has. Also St Marys Church which is architecturally stunning.

Church of the Good Shepherd

The Church of the Good Shepherd photo above is an hour and a half towards Aoraki Mt Cook and you may take a trip in the evening to view the Night sky though the observatory situated at Mt John. The other photo is our Port where the Penguins have established a small colony and may be viewed in the evening.
